Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) is the largest airport in Bangladesh. This airport is situated in Kurmitola near Uttara, the Northern part of the Capital city Dhaka. It is the busiest airport in Bangladesh which accommodate near about 15,000 inbound and outbound passengers. In such busy airport, about 50,000 people visits the airport to receive or see off their near ones.
The airport has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 at the arrival end. Terminal 1 is newer than the other one though the naming confuses someone who visited the airport a long time ago. But the Terminal 2 is much larger than Terminal 1. HSIA has also two terminals at its departure end. Passenger can enter inside the departure area through 6 gates. Including the international terminal, this airport also facilitated with a domestic terminal adjacent to its international terminal building. A good number of foreign and domestic airline companies are operating now in both the terminals.
The airport has its cargo section to its northern side. Both import and export cargo facilities are situated there.
Hazrat Shahajalal International Airport is administered by Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh although it has a seperate administration wing for operational purpose. HSIA airport is considered as the gateway to the world.
