25.3 kg gold bars recovered | Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Customs officials recovered 25.3 kg gold bars from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight today at around 1.30 pm. Acting on tip off, customs intelligence operated a special drive on the flight after it landed at the airport. However, none was arrested in this incident because the gold bars were found unattended and unclaimed, an airport official said. This gold bars have been brought illegally to Bangladesh, he said.
The Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG 004 landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 1.30pm. Based on prior information, Customs official searched the aircraft just after landing and recovered 217 gold bars under a seat at the back of the aircraft. Approximate price of the recovered gold is supposed to be around 8.9 crore BDT.
This recovery of gold at the airport is considered to be the largest in recent years. This gold will be deposited to the government treasury, confirmed customs officials.
