Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) announced that both international and domestic passengers will have to pay extra charges for using any Bangladeshi airports for travelling to and from abroad or within the country. In a circular, CAAB notified that passengers have to pay for passenger security and airport development fee in addition to the airfare. and the new fees were to be in effect from 16th August, that is, from today.
According to the circular signed by Mr Mohammad Moazzem Hossain, Director (Finance) of CAAB, an international passenger travelling to SAARC countries, that is India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives will have to pay 5 (Five) US Dollar in extra to air ticket price as airport development fee and 6 (six) USD as a passenger security fee.
Passengers travelling to and from countries other than the SAARC countries will have to spend 10 USD extra for passenger security and 10 USD for airport development. These fees were added recently to facilitate passenger security and airport development due to the pandemic situation of COVID-19.
For domestic passengers, the airport development fee has been set to BDT 100 and the passenger security fee has been fixed to BDT 70.
Newly added fees will definitely increase the airfare in all routes and for all passengers.
However, airline operators will deduct the fees from the passengers when they book or buy air tickets.
