Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national flag carrier of Bangladesh added the 3rd Boeing 787 Dreamliner to its fleet. Named Gangchil, Biman’s latest Dreamliner is one of the state of the art latest hi-tech aircraft around the world.
The much-awaited aircraft landed at 05.04 PM today at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Through this addition, Biman’s fleet expanded to the number of 15 aircraft.
The Dreamliner was welcomed through a water cannon salute at the airport after its arrival in the country. Biman MD & CEO Farhat Hasan Jamil, Director (Administration) Ziauddin Ahmed, Chief Financial Officer Veenit Sud, Director (Engineering) Group Captain(Retired) Khandker Sazzadur Rahim, Director (Customer Care) Atique Sobhan, Director Shahjalal International Airport Group Captain Abu Sayed Mehbub Khan and officers from Civil Aviation Authority were present at the welcome program of the Dreamliner.
Gangchil landed at Dhaka airport directly from Seattle, United States.
In 2008, Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed an agreement with the American Aircraft Manufacturer Boeing to supply 10 new aircraft for the national flag carrier. In the meantime, 4 new Boeing 777-300 ER, two new Boeing 737-800 and two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner arrived in the country before the arrival of Gangchil. With this, the total Boeing Dreamliner count stands at 3 now.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chose the names for the Dreamliner which are-Akashbina, Hangsha Balaka, Gangchil and Raj Hangsha.
In the newest Dreamliner Gangchil, there are 271 seats. Among these seats, 24 seats are business class and 247 seats are economy class seats. Business class passengers will be able to have a very comfortable journey as the business class seats may be reclined at 180 degrees and can be converted to flat-bed.
Passengers can also avail of Internet and phone call facilities along with the other modern facilities in the aircraft.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the 3rd Dreamliner on 7th August 2019.
