At least 16 passengers have been arrested by Airport Armed Police Battalion (AAPBn) members this morning from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. These passengers were trying to migrate to Thailand with fake visa, airport sources said. The arrested persons include a female Rohingya refugee.
Acting on a tip off, AAPBn Senior Assistant Superintendent Motazzar Hossain conducted a special drive with the plain clothed AAPBn intelligence personnel at around 11 am at the check in counter area of the Airport. These people were trying to go Thailand in a group when they were arrested. Checking their passport by the Document Analysis Center of Immigration Police, the Visas borne by the arrested passengers were identified as fake.
When interrogated, some of the arrested people said that they paid one Md. Azizur Rahman of Mymensingh taka 2.50 lac each through the broker in condition of sending them to Thailand. The syndicate was processing the migration of this large group for last two months, they claimed.
Later, the arrested passengers were sent to the Airport Police Station and a case was filed against all concerned in this connection.
